Would the electric connectivity work through waxoil? Many thanks Will Never had a problem if you re-assemble whilst 'wet' or you could use fancy dielectric grease just in the bulb holder

Went out for a short run having refitted the seats. They have been re-upholstered in black leather by a local guy at a very reasonable £625. Had a bit of difficulty starting the engine after 3 months hibernation, but a short spray of brake cleaner into the carbs worked fine. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2023/03/03/IMG_1163.md.jpeg) Will have to do some more work on the cosmetics. Will also have to replace the seals on the carb jet assemblies, but that will have to wait until it gets a bit warmer as my fingers aren't as supple as they once were

That's a very good price for re-upholstering, can you reveal where you had them done? I got my 4/4 out of hibernation recently too. The engine fired OK but the clutch had seized so I exited the garage a little quicker than planned!

Never had a problem if you re-assemble whilst 'wet' or you could use fancy dielectric grease just in the bulb holder This has come up on several automobile Forums that I follow. By definition, dielectric grease is an insulating compound so I can't figure out why it is recommended to apply it to contacts in order to improve conductivity. Clean the contacts and tighten them if possible by squeezing them together with a pair of needle nose pliers, insert the bulb, then apply the dielectric grease to keep the moisture out...

At my HARLEYs the bulbs where greased from new. It looks like done by the (Harley) factory. Greets René

The grease is for waterproofing….. “There is a myth floating around that putting dielectric grease into electrical connections can cause them to fail because the grease gets between the metal. That’s not true. Although the dielectric grease does insulate the metal and wiring from external invaders, the contacts are tight enough to still maintain a connection, the grease is just displaced. That said, you do not need to squirt huge globs of dielectric grease into your connectors as you see in some videos out there.” https://www.thedrive.com/maintenance-repair/39173/dielectric-grease

Yes drill a drain hole. Water in the indicator cN damage the ecu Don’t make the hole too small though, otherwise capillary action can cause more water to enter the fitting. My vote would be not to drill holes but rather to use silicon grease on the seals etc to ensure that the housing is water tight.

That's correct and silicone grease is a good dielectric but more importantly it repels moisture and the points of electrical contact push a thin smear of the grease out of the way to the extent electrical continuity remains, and bulb removal remains easy. Think lesser of two evils where rust definitely disrupts conductivity. This is why it's recommended so often. I also put a thin smear on horn ring too.
