Hi, everyone, I'm looking for some advice regarding the transmission mount on our car. I have the interior out to replace the aluminum floor plates with plywood, as original, and install the new seats.

The 1st photo is the transmission mount as installed. I have no history of the car, so I don't know when or by whom the T9 conversion was done. The second photo is of a standard Morgan transmission mount. It is obvious that the fore and aft angles on the chassis are too closely spaced to use the standard mount, so the installer cobbled together what I have to work with.

I'm going to have a mount fabricated in sort of a "π" shape to fit the angle supports, so that the bolts will not go through the floor panel and horizontal leg of the angle.

That said, I have a couple questions:

1. What is the standard spacing between the transmission mount angles? (Ours is 3".)
2. Does the standard mount fit in between the angles or does it straddle them and bear on the horizontal legs?

I have supported the transmission, removed the mount, and found that nothing is welded, just held together by the two vertical bolts...

Hello. I can probably help you and will be happy to exchange messages in more detail on Monday. You mention the T9 gearbox was a conversion, so I make the assumption you have a 4/4 which originally had a 4 speed gearbox. I converted my 1971 4/4 to use a 5speed T9 box in the 1980s and wrote up the conversion details in Miscellany at the time. If that report is of help to you I can email a copy, if you are converting a T9 back to a 4 speed, I may also be able to help. Mike Pullen.

Hi, Mike, yes, our '64 4/4 was originally a 1500 Kent with a 4 speed and it has been converted to a 1600 Kent Crossflow with the T9 5 speed. A copy of your write-up will be great. Thanks! Email address is in my user profile...

Just one post as I don't want to drift your thread .... after having my Speedograph 90° speedo drive in for repair since last September, Burton have just issued me with a refund out of the blue (which I don't wan't .. I want a working speedo!) ... bit of a long shot, but do you (or anyone else here) recognise the 90° speedo drive in the pic? .... to me it looks like one meant for another car (MGB or some such) with an adaptor in the gearbox that it now screws into. As Burton seem to think they're not getting anything from Speedograph any time soon I need to think of an alternative

On mine, I used the original 4 speed Speedograph angle drive, and Simon made up an adaptor to mate the two together.



IIRC, Arwyn also used the original four speed drive and adaptor, and turned it down to fit inside the 5 speed box. He said there was a handy bolt hole nearby the allowed him to use the original clamp The Lotus Elan crew use the same drive and gearbox - that's where I got most of my bits from when the drive broke on my 4 speed.

You need something like this - Type 9 Adaptor

But one that has the same thread pattern as a conventional 4 speed angle speedo drive.(BG2402/03)
