I have a new Roadster on order ( if they ever get the new engine sorted!). The first thing I will do is check the run of the battery cable over the battery brackets ( that did for my last one when it shorted out :-(
Next, I will dismantle the headlight assemblies & treat all the chrome with Rustguard as I found these to be prone to rusting.
Next, I'll remove the front indicators & make sure the back is sealed. I had to replace both assemblies due to water ingress.
Then I'll stop faffing about & get driving the thing! Ian

What products do you use for rust proofing?

I still have some Waxoyl floating around the garage, but there's another I much prefer now, 2 cans of which are in my office at home and whose name I cannot remember...

Cheers, Dinitrol? If so, that is what MMC use on new builds.

I thought the headlamp surrounds were stainless steel? They seem to be S/S on my car (2005 4/4). It is possible to buy S/S headlamp rims, that would be a permanent cure. One area I had a little rust beginning to form was inside the bonnet piano hinge, which is carbon steel. I filled it with ACF-50 following advice on this forum, and no rust since. It seems to be very effective indeed, and as it's less "waxy" than waxoyl, it seems to penetrate better, though of course then it remains "oily" so not suitable for every type of surface. http://www.acf-50.co.uk/motorcycle.htmNigel

But it's good for a wipe over the inside of headlamp trims. ACF-50 - now why couldn't I remember that???

The worst rust on mine was not on the surrounds but on the clamp which fits around the headlamp lens. I've not tried it on chromed parts yet, but I've found Rustguard to be reasonably effective on the brightwork on my engine. It's a clear film, so OK to use on visible parts. Ian

From the condition of the headlamp pods and mountings I'm pretty sure mine had been changed a year or two before I bought the car. They are worth pulling every couple of years to check for corrosion.
