I recall a small but trusted Moto Guzzi business in London we offered the usual 30 day credit terms too on the spares we supplied them. The owner was killed in a motorcycle accident and the business was wound up. At the time the Guzzi importer had provided a couple of new bikes on SOR. On hearing of the death the importers immediately sent a van down with a couple of hefty staff armed with proof of ownership documents, and not taking no for an answer retrieved their bikes. We were not so lucky!

I believe for all the above reasons SOR is a very risky business. The other point worth mentioning is that some dealers will not look after your car very well. I remember visiting a Morgan accredited dealer last year to look at a car. It was pouring with rain and the car was on the forecourt, when I got in, it was pretty wet on the inside as well, mainly because the hood flaps had not been pulled out over the side screens, not something an owner would ever let happen. An owner will not always know how it is being driven on a test drive as potential customers are not always accompanied.
Personally I would NEVER take a car of mine to a dealer to sell on my behalf. I have always sold my cars privately and whilst it may be a little more hassle dealing with people, in my view it has always been worth the hassle and the few time wasters, for the better price realised.

On the other hand selling privately is open to quite a few scams as well as the inevitable tyre kickers who derive some sort of pleasure out of the process. I remember Colin/AKA Spanner Juggler typing of his frustrating experience with tyre kickers, but Colin sold his car in the end.

A little update. My car was sold by my local dealer and they did an excellent job on my behalf. I got a price I was happy with and none of the hassle. The dealer got their cut and I hope the new owner enjoys their new Morgan. For me, this was definitely the best result.

Well done on the sale.
For the first time ever C&C didn’t work for me, we’ll sort of. Advertised the Morgan and found a ‘buyer’ within days. He kept me hanging on for a month, turning away several other potential buyers. Finally pulling out of the sale because his wife wouldn’t fit!
I’ve taken it off for now but will have another try next month. I really do fancy more comfy seats. And a light coloured interior. And an easy up hood. And a wooden dash. And, and , and….

I fear the settlement is quite the opposite of good news as I'm station staff and we've been told the government are pressing ahead with consultation on ' reform' from next month regardless. At least I have some money in the fighting fund now though!

Good Luck, and as you say you have a cash buffer (not intended) to assist whist things are sorted out.
