SOLAR WIND, INCOMING (UPDATED): A minor stream of solar wind is heading for Earth. ETA: March 31st. The gaseous material is flowing from a relatively small hole in the sun's atmosphere, now facing our planet. ( So visual aurora, if it happens may be earlier than already predicted)

X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: This is becoming routine. The sun just produced another X-class solar flare, the 7th of 2023. The X1.2-category explosion came from sunspot AR3256 near the sun's South-western limb:

Radiation from the flare ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, causing a strong shortwave radio blackout over southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Ham radio operators may have noticed loss of signal below 30 MHz for as much as an hour after the peak of the flare (March 29th @ 02:33 UTC).

Luckily I wasn't awake at 0230! grin2

Nice that HF conditions are picking up anyway - good for QRP.

SOLAR WIND, INCOMING (UPDATED): A minor stream of solar wind is heading for Earth. ETA: April 1st. The gaseous material is flowing from a relatively small hole in the sun's atmosphere, now facing our planet. Arctic auroras are likely when the solar wind arrives.

METEORS FROM HALLEY'S COMET: Earth is approaching a stream of debris from Halley's Comet, source of the annual Orionid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Sunday, Oct. 22nd, with 15 to 20 meteors per hour. The best time to look is during the dark hours before sunrise when Orion the Hunter is high in the sky.

Was recently viewing the Aurora on live webcam in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada by Explore.org.

These are screenshots from that live viewing episode.

THE SOLAR WIND HAS ARRIVED: As predicted, a fast-moving stream of solar wind is blowing around Earth today, Oct. 30th. The gaseous material is flowing from an equatorial hole in the sun's atmosphere. Arctic sky watchers should be alert for auroras shining through almost-full Moonlight.

A CANNIBAL CME IS COMING: NOAA models confirm that a Cannibal CME will strike our planet on Dec. 1st. Cannibal CMEs form when a fast CME sweeps up a slower CME ahead of it. The combination contains intense, tangled magnetic fields that can do a good job sparking auroras when they reach Earth. If a Cannibal CME strikes Earth on Dec. 1st, as predicted, geomagnetic storm levels could reach category G3 strong ?
