I have a 2005 Duratec Plus 4. I am replacing the horrible plastic expansion tank with this Mulfab item but it has one extra exit pipe (circled). Where does it have to go please?

I am not familiar with the particular tank but looking at the position of that take -off I would expect it to simply connect to an overflow pipe exiting to the atmosphere.
This tank has a conventional pressure cap unlike the original which I would suspect is a modern plastic system with a tiny hole in the plastic cap for venting.
With the conventional spring loaded cap, there is no breather hole in the cap itself, as the sealing washer simply lifts under pressure to a point where it exposes that take off pipe for venting.
Think I would take advice as to what pressure cap is applicable. (unless of course this tank is specified for your particular model)
Think the plastic caps let go at about 21psi.

I believe so as I gave Mulfab my car details.

I think that is an overflow. The plastic ford unit just vents to atmosphere. Run a pipe down to under the car to divert any blow off.

Agreed, it's the pressure cap release overflow. Just route the end of pipe connected to it to a suitable low point. There should rarely be anything come out if the pressure cap is correct.

Assuming you don't overfill when cold

The tube runs into the driver's footwell 6 inches above the accelerator pedal. That way you get an immediate warning if the engine overheats laugh

Makes going for a “burn up”, a whole new proposition?
