Today i have a car to service in my workshop same age as mine and the chrome wires on the inside rims (the part no one sees) has got quite some rust and corrosion going on.

For my cars that have chrome wheels during the winter I give a light coat of WD40 as MWS wheels recommends and over the years has maintained the chrome to a high standard.

I was wondering how many know this and its certainly worth doing, this of course is not needed on stainless wires.

I have had 2 Morgan’s , both with wire wheels, one of my priorities is to cost the inside with spray on waxoyl - works a treat

My stainless wires get a good squirt of silicone spray every time the wheels are removed. Road grime doesn’t stick too well to this and is consequently easy to wipe off.

WD40 by its very nature attracts moisture. I use RimWax for protection.

What about AF50 as a solvent to remove dirt then protect.

Acf50 will do the job. It saves a lot of effort if you maintain the inside rims of wires as a routine. Going into winter they should be fully cleaned. With practice it doesn't take long.
