I can’t recall our local roads in Hampshire ever being as bad as they are now.

On top of the normal winter pot hole legacy we’ve also had an invasion of frenetic fibre optic laying contractors digging up huge numbers of roads and from what I can see there’s no monitoring of the quality of their reinstatement work.

Eg. We currently have a collapsed “reinstated” trench (4” deep in places) across the junction at the end of our road. Numerous residents have raised the matter with the Highways Dept, who some four weeks later are apparently still investigating. Their first response was that the works were done in 2013…..so we must have all imagined the three way traffic lights and diggers last month then? banghead

I bet they don’t have the ability to check and monitor road works and that contractor warranty periods routinely fade away leaving public finances to pick up the bill. doh

We have just had the run of multiple three way traffic lights in our village for full fibre to be laid although for the most part involving digging up footpaths. Not complaining too much about this as we are very shortly to benefit. I guess we then have to look forward to a round of same mid summer for the potholes.

Particularly annoying is the policy of adding tar and chippings to "repair" a road surface. This is performed very quickly, often a mile at a time in a matter of hours but with only the most rudimentary preparation and rolling in. Vehicles then perform the rest with multiple opportunities for chipped paint, followed sometimes with a road sweeper to collect the excess chippings on each curb. Most annoying though is lack of thought given to the already sunken manhole covers, worse with the raised surface swear

Really bad here in Gloucestershire also.
One of my nearly new winter tyres on the tin top has had to be scrapped because of two bulges caused by pot holes, replacement cost £177

And Cambridgeshire. Some are now really dangerous particularly on faster speed limited roads throwing the Morgan off track if you hit them. A friend with low profile on her Merc has been through 4 tyres and 2 rims. Council does pay out but it takes ages to get your money.

Friends of ours suffered this one Friday in the heavy rain and not spotted the pothole just a mile from home...

South Notts is just as bad. Attempts to repair potholes last a few days at most.
