Ouch!
I once wrote off four alloys fitted with low profile tyres on an Audi hire car. The culprit was a railway crossing where the ramp had disintegrated. Thankfully I had taken out the insurance option!

Whenever I rent a car I must admit I always exercise the extra insurance cover and wonder why afterwards.
Yours is a perfect example of why so I shall feel better about signing it off next time.

You are probably better prepared for today's pothole roads with the high balloon tires of an older Morgan than with the new Morgans with low-profile tires.

I thought we had a pretty bad rash of them in Dorset until the last 10 days spent in and around Battle and Hastings in East Sussex - the sheer number, size and scary depth of them was horrific - I was driving around in an Audi Q5, and after each crunch was thinking - good job we aren't in the Mog.....

In Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire I've noticed that as well as the potholes there seems to be more road distortion, possibly related to the very dry conditions last year. Some roads which had been relatively smooth are now like rollercoasters, there are also longitudinal collapses which lead to tram lining.

I'll bet they are not forged wheels.
Forged wheels are expensive, but don't bend.
Back when Tarka was new I asked one of the team at MMC, if they had ever had a Reys Aeromax Wheel bend. The answer was: no, the suspension lower link or upright normally fails first.
Tarka was delivered with a front N/S suspension from a S1 or 2 Aero, because a journalist had damaged the suspension, the wheel was undamaged. They collected the car and fitted the correct parts very smartly.

Fortunately we have a very good company in Exeter that can sort out buckled alloys - I have had four of my Fiesta one's recovered by them and they are returned as good as new.

The Fiesta Titanium diesel wheels appear to be made of marshmallow and the low profiles don't help..

Cast v forged?
Casting creates a structure inherently weaker than forging.
When casting the structure forms due to cooling. It can be influenced slightly by including chill sections in the mould resulting in faster cooling where these pull out the heat quicker. This influences the crystal structure shape/size where beneficial.
Forging changes the structure by “pushing” the internal structure ( other effects also). It can create a (fibrous” structure -think of comparing a dead branch versus a green living branch. Brittle versus tougher.
Repair of damage. Can be very complex involving heat management to maintain structural integrity and form, introducing extra stresses if no subsequent stress relief. It can become very complex!
Cracked wheel? Weld it? With what? Stress relief?
Be wary!
