Just to resurrect this thread - bought my car on Saturday 6th May, change notified online that morning, new V5 arrived in the post Friday 12th May. Incredibly fast considering it was also Bank Holiday Monday. I'm assuming the online system is fully automated . I think so, it's when you need human intervention / processing that things go pear shaped

Routine online stuff seems to work well.
On the other hand .... my nephew has now been waiting more than six months for a V5C for an old motorcycle that he's trying to register. He's called numerous times and each time he gets fobbed off saying it's with another department.

Just paid the bosses car tax online , no problem at all apart from paying for a tax that wont get the potholes fixed
