Of course, I'm also thinking about a weight restriction now after this incident.
Thank you Richard for this hint. Where can I find this information ?

Morgan often have faults in their engineering but to be fair that rack was never meant to take nearly 90lbs in weight...

Sorry Clemens I cannot find the MMC published info now and as I said related to trad cars. When I did see it I was prompted to weight swmbo's humungous suitcase which came out at 23 Kg packed to the brim. TBH that's almost as much as I can lift nowadays oldgit wink

Touring with this weight, spare wheel plus full tank (52 litres = 37 Kg) is ok thanks to the dual rate SSL coil spring rear but suspect bumps at speed with leaf springs would have them bottoming out. No idea of CX cars but hopefully they have adequate reserves of suspension travel and of course smaller tank capacity.

Agreed - that is a lot of weight. To put in perspective, the old Landrover Defender roofrack only had a recommend limit of 75kg!

I have only estimated the weight of the suitcase. The first thing I will do when we are back in Germany next week is to put the suitcase on a scale to find out the exact weight.

Hi Clemens, let's start to say that I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday. I think you were very well prepared with the bespoke luggage on the rear shelf and the thoughts about the suitcase. So there is nothing to blame you. Maybe the 2 sidescreens extra on the suitcase became too much!? Still, should not happen. I know you have the luggage carrier without the sidescreen-spare option, so you was not planning to put them on the rack too!?
As our Morgans are nearly as old (or new) and I have the same rack, we stick to a smaller leather suitcase with mohair enveloppe, and put as much as we can in the bags behind the seats while traveling to Denmark. And leave a lot at home....! SWMO Bianchi doesn't like driving the Morgan without widescreens, so that was never an option. And if it becomes too hot in Denmark winky we can always close the hood and switch the aircon on! blush
I'm very interested what MMC has to say about this and if this ever happened before. And they have to fix your damage. I'll watch your posts closely!

Regards, Ruut

Hello Ruut,
I bought the luggage bridge with side screen bag especially for this trip. But the torque becomes even greater with this bridge. You can see it quite well in the picture.
I also have to praise my dealer very much. A new bracket will be delivered in two weeks and extra welded. My dealer also thinks that the welding of the bracket is not very well done.

nice view . I wonder why they have removed the stop lights in the hood and going back to the horrible periscope.
