Do you have PB Blaster products on your side of the pond? They have a penetrating catalyst that works amazingly well.

This should actually be posted in the "So Have You Driven Your Morgan Today?" thread. I started this one more for maintenance or improvement projects.

Quite right - I misread the thread title.

I'm not sure, I'll have a look - thenk you for the recommendation.

I was having a closer look at the studs yesterday, and at least four of the five remaining studs have a thread or two showing beyond the 'raised section' on the engine side. When trying a last tighten I was getting a real 'creak' from the bolts. This suggests to me that the nut was tight on the shoulder and I was actually moving the studs.. The implication is that a) there is movement in the studs (wishful thinking) and that b) this may be why the manifold was not sealing effectively.

Piece of piss to take a cylinder head off a crossflow!

I helicoil the exhaust stud threads on my heads as a matter of course. I use M8 stainless grub screws with a small hex in the end - use a small hex key to stop the stud turning when tightening everything up.

Day off yesterday so spend most of it in the workshop.

Machined up a pair of kingpins for my 1933 JAP Super Sports, machining the top collars from an old 4 wheeler King pin.

Went to braze them up and then ran out of acetylene

Made up a rear wheel spindle for the same car out of better spec steel (EN19T), old one was worn and bent into an 's' shape

Made up a rear spindle nut in stainless for the three wheeler and silver soldered the oil seal carrier/rear wheel spacer back together

Got a phone call from my pal to say the chassis was ready for collection so drove up to Leyland in Lancashire to pick it up , just about fitted in my Golf estate.

Came back, tidied up the workshop ready for Plus 4 coming back from trimmers on Sunday, cleaned and oiled the lathe and vertical mill.

Set a few jobs up for Saturday then locked up!

Agreed - I reckon I can do it quicker than trying to change the fan belt on my Corsa.......

The replacement studs I have are the same style, although 5/16" UNC

Be wary of using Stainless studs, their tensile strength is not great and I believe can react with ali. When I did mine on my 911, I went with Titanium studs - god they are a sexy item !!!
