Took the boot floor out to have a look and wound up cleaning and coating the corroded battery terminals, tray and retaining bracket.

Last couple of days I've been trying to treat the rust patches on my wings.A horrible job as the wing edges contained an enormous amount of filler and I've had to try and recreate the original profile using more filler. Not perfect but a reasonable job and no worse than the previous restorer. Also whipped off the manifold as the exhaust was blowing a little at the block. Got new gaskets on the way, but not looking forward to trying to remove the old studs.. Been soaking regularly in plusgas and will attempt a removal over the weekend. Get ready for an enormous amount of swearing, and bracing myself for a head removal and some helicoils....

Phil ... are the studs damaged? ... wondering why they needed to come out?

I found mine was blowing at the siamesed central joint .... I used the old centre gasket to shim out the new one with some high temperature gold silicone .... left to cure for 24 hours ... not had a reccurence yet.

While my wings were off I took them back to bare metal ... was amazed at the amount of filler just about everywhere ... the rear guards being worst, tried to use the bare minimum filler to get them decent on rebuild

I've got a Librands big bore, and the central studs are supposed to be removed and replaced with allen bolts. With the wider bore pipes the normal 1/2" nuts are too large to fit in the central section - I managed to originally find some smaller brass nuts that took a 12mm spanner and they just fitted, but as it was the central section that was blowing I've decided to whip them out (if possible) and do it properly.

One outer stud unscrewed with the nut attached so although I only need to remove the inner two, it would leave one new stud and three old ones on the outers which upsets my sense of symmetry. I have some lovely stainless ones which I'll fit which a touch of antisieze.

As I've said, I've been soaking in PlusGas (and will continue to for the next two days), I've ordered some high tensile UNF nuts to lock together, and I've got my mini Oxy set to get some heat into the surrounding area. I can always weld a nut on if I get any breakages that leave enough stud clear. If I have to get the head off, it might just be just enough leverage to persuade the Mrs that it's the perfect time to get a Stage 2 head so won't be the end of the world smile smile

I've mentioned before, the restorer of mine was a) not a Morgan specialist and b) loved filler. On the rear number plate valance he'd tried to blend it into the rear body work - the filler was 1cm thick in places. My current effort looks great at 2 metres and a squint, but there are a few dodgy bits if you get closer. However I now no longer have a number of inch long deep rusty cracks, which is a good thing!

Makes sense now! 🙂 .... hope the studs come out ok .... I've so far found that if they end up mangled the 'weld a nut on' stage works well ... the combination of bright red heat and a nice clean hex nut to grip seems to do the trick. Good Luck

At Ch. Carbonnieux, the family has a small motor museum. All French cars from 1904 to the mid '20s. Apologies for the poor image quality, but it was rather dark in there.

Some great photos but what catches my eye most is your car in travelling configuration!

Being relatively new to Morgan ownership - well very new as I’ve only had the car 4 weeks - working out how to carry luggage for road trips is a topic of conversation in our house. Costs for bespoke luggage are eye watering so for our first road trip - a short jaunt to Wales where we are bound to get wet - we will use bags that are reportedly waterproof.

I’ve read through posts about high level brake light mods and trawled the web for photos to see what others use

But in your photos where are you keeping the side screens?

At home! Too warm to need them, and the windscreen keeps out most of the cold air early in the morning.

The screens go back up in winter, but if needed the Morgan rack has a slot under the luggage platform for a sidescreen bag.

I think late September in Wales I will be taking the screens!
