Hi: I’m interested in re-flashing the ECM or using a performance replacement chip in my 2021 Plus 4 w/ Ford GDI engine. What would be the difference? I’m in the U.S.and the chip upgrade is readily available. Otherwise, my dealer, 80 plus miles away has to send the computer back to the factory to be re-flashed. Could take weeks.(past experience.) Does anyone have an opinion. Thanks, Larry

My understanding is that the ECU on GDI-engined +4s (like mine from 2017) is security/password protected from modification other than by the factory - I've had the "enhancement flash" carried out on mine (sent ECU to the factory), so did some reading around about it all.

When I had mine done (well over a year ago), the service manager at MMC told me that ECU-only reflashes would soon become impossible, as they would no longer have a suitable car there on which they temporarily install the ECU, to carry out the work.

Maybe over in the US you can get hold of a replacement ECU and then have a tuning provider tweak it to suit?

Dissapointing MMC haven't got a dedicated loom to facilitate the hook up.

Thanks. Do you think the re-flash was an improvement in performance? Larry

I’ve got the Flash at my 2018 Plus4 by MMC. And it is a massive step in the right direction.

Without the flash between 2500 and 3500RPM kicking the pedal was like I would brake. There are torque graphs showing the deepest torquerate is in this area!

With the enhanced flash ist is like ist must be. Knocking the pedal on the wood and the car pulls massive forward.
