I,m away from home with my 1984 plus 8
The indicators, fuel gauge volt gauge are dead. Have looked for loose wires and fuses ok it happened yesterday and there was a red/white wire hanging off and I reconnected it to a red/white 4 way junction which fixed it, same fault today no disconnection.
Anyone got a bright idea?

If it's loose enough to come apart on it's own, when you re-connected it did you check it was 'tight' ? If you have bullet connectors these often get dirty and cause intermittent faults

As well as cleaning the bullet connectors, it is worth giving the female a very gentle squeeze with pliers to tighten the fit.

Suggest checking for power (+12 volts) from ignition switch onwards. There should be a white wire from this feeding a fuse which in turn feeds instruments either direct or via their regulator in the case of fuel and temp gauge. There is also a white/red wire from ignition switch which feeds the starter relay, live when ignition switch turned to start position. This maybe the one you mistook for red/white.

Traced voltage to fuse , it wasn't blown. Spring clips holding the fuse were slack!
All working now
Thanks to all repliers
Lucas prince of darkness returns again.
Inspecting the fuse the day before worked temporarily
