Hello dear fellow Three Wheeler Drivers,

I plan to take my M3W on a trip through Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, maybe with short excursions to Monaco, Austria.

Apart from things like first aid kid, warning triangle, etc. that I must have with me in Germany anyway, can you tell me what is additionally required abroad?

In Switzerland I will need a vignette for the road tax.
One for a car, or one for a motorbike?

In France I am no longer required to have an alcohol tester, correct?

Anything unusual in Italy? Spare bulbs maybe?

I think in Austria I am expected to wear a helmet, correct?
(If so, I will rather avoid Austria.)

Best Regards, Christoph

Spare timing belt, spare fuel pump, spare crank sensor, credit card, spare front inner tube(s), a good recovery provider... I'll add if I can think of more......

Enjoy the trip!! I

If it is not already done, put anti-puncture goo in the rear tyre (eg OKO tyre sealant) - changing/repairing a rear tyre is not a trivial roadside activity.

Spanners/hex keys for tightening up all the fasteners that will come inevitably come loose as you go

Good data roaming package so you can access all the great advice on fixing things on this website!

@Taffmog, @JMD: Thank you for the practical advice.
I appreciate that, because it will indeed be my first longer trip with my Three Wheeler.

But my initial concern was:

If I get stopped by police in country XY, what must I carry with me in order to avoid a citation?

I would imagine warning triangle, fluorescent waistcoat and a first aid kit.

Don't forget the paperwork. I carry mine in a waterproof wallet underneath the driver's seat.

> MOT certificate

Do you run without a front number plate? If so, it's worth taking a printout of UK number plate legislation. This is the relevant section and the QR code will take you straight to the .gov web page. May be useful if you're standing on the side of the road arguing the point with an over-enthusiastic gendarme! [Linked Image]

Re front number plates on an M3W in the UK.
I used to run without one , then was pulled up at MOT time as the car is a MOT class 4 ( exceeds the weight for class 3 by quite a margin ) so needs a front plate.
So my understanding is it is a legal requirement to display one at the front ?
