Hello dear fellow Three Wheeler Drivers,

I plan to take my M3W on a trip through Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, maybe with short excursions to Monaco, Austria.

Apart from things like first aid kid, warning triangle, etc. that I must have with me in Germany anyway, can you tell me what is additionally required abroad?

In Switzerland I will need a vignette for the road tax.
One for a car, or one for a motorbike?

In France I am no longer required to have an alcohol tester, correct?

Anything unusual in Italy? Spare bulbs maybe?

I think in Austria I am expected to wear a helmet, correct?
(If so, I will rather avoid Austria.)

Best Regards, Christoph

No need for a helmet in Austria but you need a motorbike Autobahnvignette if you use highways. No front number plate required.
But you have to buckle up IN the M3W.

"There is some confusion whether the rear license plate must be a big one for cars or a small one for motorbikes.
My registration office insisted on a small one!?

Can I get into trouble if I am traveling abroad with only a rear license plate?"

As a german, i have no front license plate, and as far as I know, for those questions, it is the law of your home country, which is what you have to do or not to do, so no problems. I carry a helmet with me, I prefer this on the Autobahn, especially when it is raining. I made 30.000 km in Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and UK, never had any discussions with the police. And I wear sailing clothes when it rains, perfect for me (and a good suncream (!))
