I’ve been holding back ever since joining this forum but a recent event has forced me to break cover and air this controversial issue.
In a nutshell … it’s the word MOG.
I was always aware that there were people who referred to Morgans this way but assumed it was either in derision or ignorance that a Mog(gie) is really a Morris Minor. I was quite surprised when I eventually became a Morgan owner and found the term was accepted, and actually embraced, by the Morgan community.
So I put up with it and thought perhaps I’d get used to it. Now after four years of Morgan ownership I find I hate the word just as much. I would no more refer to a Morgan as a “Mog” than I would call a Bentley a “Bot”. The recent announcement that the MMC is going to call their new magazine "Mog" is the last straw. So there it is, sorry if I’ve offended anyone. If you are with me and think that a mog is nothing but a mangy cat please have the courage to speak out now and let me know I’m not alone.
However, if you love and use this name for your Morgan please feel free to put me straight. Tell me how the iconic style, craftsmanship and heritage of the marque we all love are embodied in the puerile little word “Mog”.

The guy who bought E10MOG for mine, paid over £1,000 for the plate.

Apparently, my plate A11OGE is worth £800 as a trade-in, so much more if brought from a trader. I had no idea why the car’s 1st owner chose A11OGE until someone suggested putting a black screw head between the 11 to make A1•1OGE so making ‘a mogie’

Doesn't bother me either way, but my Aero's number hasn't got Mog in it!

Ian I admire your bravery and have to admit to having some sympathy with your opinion. I do find myself at times aflicted by referring to my car using that "word" By the same method of shortening a Bentley would become a "Bet" and a Lamborghini - a "Lab" This should be a lively thread

When we bought our car in 2003 we decided that a name would be desirable. We failed to identify a name. In the last two years we find ourselves referring to the car as "Little Mog" - in my case in the hope that one day the will be a garage of three with added "Big Mog" and "Baby Mog". The Nagivator disagrees - seeming determined that we remain a one Morgan family. Time will tell.

Hi Ian, I also know the term Moggie for the Morris Minor. I have however embraced the term Mog for the Morgan as it does appear to be the acceptable term. I have put a MOG reg on the car although I did look for alternatives such as MMC. I would like to know where the term Mog originated.

for those of you who are 'for' a MOG plate, have a look here. http://www.morgans4sale.co.uk/md50fram.htm

I've ticked the "yes" box as I occasionally refer to mine as Mogs. However, no way would I pay money for a MOG registration.
My 4/4 has a Worcester numberplate, so quite appropriate, and the three wheeler, a Cardiff numberplate. And since it spent 1930 to 1998 in Wales, good history. I'm the first English owner!

I thought MOG stood for Morgan Owners Group...Hence its use on the new MAG, may be...No idea."" but couldn't call the car a Mor for short.. So ours is called "Monty"
