A lot depends on your skills when it comes to roadside repairs. A credit card may suffice or at the other end of the scale as below. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/ozMX2xV.jpg) Tool roll made from old rugby shirt (may cost you a meal out but well worth it ) with slots for full range of spanners up to 19mm, range of small allen keys, small ¼" sockets and rachet, small adjustable, screwdrivers, stanley knife, long nose pliers, cable ties, tape etc. Spinner remover and jack, soft hammer, spare relays, torch. Most have been used at some time when away from home, if not in anger. Note to self, remember to add disposable gloves.

Take a Morgan 4/4 with a Sigma engine (pref with an alloy rad) & you won’t need to carry any tools or spare parts 🤣

If a CX model take 1 litre of BMW coolant to mix 50/50 with water.. gets you home if your rad leaks..

Spare brake light switch is worth including in the list. I also carry the second switch that is operated by the brake pedal in my Sigma engined 4/4. One is NO the other NC.
Sadly I cannot remember which does which job. Intuitively, I suspect that the brake lights are operated by the Normally closed (NC) switch which is held open by the brake pedal in the brakes off position.

Yes, Paul, Apem 1212 NC for the break light and Apem 1213 NO for the ECU switch.
The problem is that you don't know where to start...For 100,000 km my control lambda sensor before cat was running fine, but in Bavaria of all places on the way to Italy it failed 5 weeks ago. But I don't always take a lambda sensor with me now. It can affect any component. It is best to have an OBD reader, the main nuts, spanners and two screwdrivers, a bottle of water, half a litre of oil and a small grease gun.
A little experience also helps. If, for example, the Apem 1213 for the ECU breaks, you can twist the two wires together so that the car runs properly at all, I have to do without the engine brake if the switch is not there. But I don't take a switch with me, because then you could really take everything in reserve...
And let's not forget that the theme opener drives a Plus 8.

+1 on the OBD2 reader in the form of Bluetooth dongle to link to app on your phone. Link below. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/by0AAOSwtlBjq-3p/s-l1200.jpg) You can then check for fault codes and clear them if necessary. Mine lives in glove box.

A cell phone that holds its charge using a carrier with reliable coverage for where you are going, AA or RAC membership (with coverage for where you are going), a credit card (with a good credit limit) that is accepted everywhere, local currency is very handy. Finally a friendly wave, smile, patience and a good sense of humor.
