I know there's a good few plane nuts amongst us ... knowing the feeling of landing at a disused bomber base with my propellor shredding weeds ... I can't imagine doing this in a month of Sundays!!

Sorry it's a FB clip and not everyone subscribes but can't find it elsewhere.

Ps .... the FB algorithm may chuck any random clip on after the intended one but the back button will fix that!! 🙂

I wouldn’t fancy that in a helicopter, let alone a fixed-wing!

On another note ..... the Red Arrows flew right over the house this evening .... since the Shackletons stopped flying we have very little aviation interest so we got quite excited ... they were a lot lower than they look in the pic. ....other than some big helicopters serving the rigs every now and then our skies are empty, so excuse my enthusiasm! 🙂

Today at the rolling road test near Duxford we were treated to a Spit & a Catalina flying overhead

I'm guessing the guy did his homework first but very risky nevertheless. It wouldn't be the undercarriage so much as wing tips I'd be worried about.

From the three muddy tracks corresponding to his nose wheel and undercarriage I'd say he lands there quite a lot ... a cart track would only have the double tracks..... not a lot of room for error or even a minor tech problem there. Not like it's even a STOL like you see the Alaskan bush-pilots landing on shingle bars with almost zero roll .... guess it's a bit like where you can easily walk along a plank sat on the ground but the same plank 100 ft in the air would get no takers ... take away all the jungle and it's just a dirt runway landing ... you just need to be brave and focussed enough to blank out your surroundings ... sound easy in principle ... still don't fancy it 🙂
