Our local Morgan dealer told me that initial delays on supply of the Super 3 were because MMC didn't want a repeat of the premature release of the 5 speeder round about 2011/12 and the whole chain of early faults that blighted same.

Apparently several pre-production Super 3 models were built and staff were invited over a period of several months to take them home and put as many miles on as possible, allowing the opportunity to iron out pre-production bugs. Given this seemingly sensible and noble approach, why so many issues now though confused2

Thoughts are that bulk supply of third party components compared with low volumes for pre-production are to blame, but the buck stops with MMC, as with the CX brake debacle also caused by third party suppliers/manufacturers. It seems within MMC there is too much reliance on batch supply being fit for purpose without adequate checking.

The automotive industry has a system for acrediting supplier parts in production builds :-

The M3W original fit wheel bearings are not good and often fail at low mileage, the seals usually fail followed by the bearing through lack of lubrication. Fitting better quality SKF items solves the problem. You would like to think that MMC would have been fitting better quality bearings in later production M3W's and new Super 3's but...... Not sure if the Super 3 has the same set up as the M3W but the rear swing arm looks very similar, just a bit wider. I imagine the extra loading with a wider back tyre and extra weight of the car will not help with bearing life?

Ouch. I was surprised to see there are 18 UK Super 3s for sale via https://www.carandclassic.com/list/83/super%203/ right now. This list could be out of date but it seems a highish number for the Summer season... Auction price of £40K for a basic but usable spec seems fair.

Those are Morgan Dealer cars so are stock/demo cars.

However I was surprised that the new Morgan Dealer Bell Classic have sold a Super3 via auction and £39,750 (plus 7.2% buyer's premium so £42,600) is a pretty good price.

I haven’t seen a Super 3 with a front number plate, so will they get through an MOT without one? I ask this as the M3W won’t in my local garages.

The rules have recently changed front number plates are not required, Super 3’s have a sticker in the boot referring to the appropriate legislation.
