I'm looking for a brighter version of this 12V-3W bulb. It's from the tachometer in our '64 4/4. During a recent night drive I noticed that it was barely readable compared to the speedo and triple gauge.

If you are ok with a whiter colour I would fit LEDs

I'm actually seeing that "Warm White" LEDs are available.

They are but they aren't the same.

Those look like MES (E10) base bulbs so wide variety of LED equivalents available in huge range of colours and brightness. Should be fit and forget in terms of longevity. Pot luck as to how they work in illuminating your instruments though. You could change all instrument bulbs to match though. Bear in mind some are a little taller than OE filament bulbs if clearance is an issue.

Don't be tempted to replace charge warning with LED equivalent though without being aware these need to be shunted with resistor (47Ω) of appropriate wattage to simulate that of OE filament bulb.

I just ordered a couple of variants of the LED that I posted above. Should be here in a couple of days, so I'll post what I find.

One caveat. I did this on my S1 Roadster where the instruments were prone to misting. Without the heat of the bulb they did take longer to clear in damp weather.

I have some old 5 watt versions of the old style bulb you show, if you weren't so far away I'd post one

Good luck with the LED versions, probably the best option, and if too white just wrap in some masking tape which will soften the output

With the extent of our weather gear being the toneau cover, the car lives in the garage in damp weather...
