An update. Today after a few weeks and over 500 miles I removed the ali panel to see if the paint was being damaged. Despite fitting a neoprene seal to the edge the panel has left light scratches in the panel. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/12/03/20211203_094046.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/12/03/20211203_094058.jpg) Luckily these polished out. So time for a rethink as clearly it is either the panel or the spare not both. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/12/03/20211203_101139.jpg)

John, I suspect that the seal is compressing enough for the internal rolled edge to catch the paintwork
Even with a thicker seal you may still find that fine particles of muck trapped in the seal abrade the finish anyway

That's a bugger John, but it's patina really - that cover looks really good as it keys in so well with the bonnets.

The answer may be to use a thicket adhesive neoprene strip on the rear panel, then remove it when you fit the spare. It's a faf, but body twist means a spacer between the two panels is the best option to avoid marks.
