Over the last few days I have been trying to work out the vagaries of the wiring. I recently fitted the Moss Hazard Warning kit which switches off the indicator flasher when the hazards are on. Noticed that the water temp gauge (a single electrical gauge added by the PO) was turned off when the hazards were on. Eventually established that it was powered through the indicator flasher rather than through a voltage regulator although I couldn't establish where the connection was made. I ran a separate wire from the indicator flasher to the indicator stalk which sorted the original problem. I have now ordered a voltage stabiliser (https://www.autoelectricalspares.co...positive-earth-bottom-bracket-3831-p.asp) so I can power the gauge correctly.

Fitted a pair of Librands stainless steel mirror bases to go with my stainless mirrors. Thought I would post some pics and give them a plug. They are exceptional quality compared to the poorly plated originals. Had them on back order for months but now they are back in stock.





The new and the old

Finally got round to changing the leaking inner axle seal. Not too bad of a job - after the last debarcle of removing the hub which involved Jack and Billy Bellingers 'Bertha' (a tracton engine hub puller), a lot of oxy and a large sledge hammer, this time it came off reasonably easy. Probably due to me fitting the Woodruff Key correctly as opposed to the previous owner. I'd previously bought a heavy duty Sykes-Pickavant puller and it did the trick after a bit of swearing and a few whacks with a lump hammer.....

Everything else came off really easily, new seal popped in, re-assembled and brakes bled. Just got to top up the diff oil, but currently having a well deserved coffee break.....

Spent the day at Beaulieu Autojumble.

I now have another 7HA axle in my spares stock, a petrol/oil tank for my 1933 Super Sports three wheeler and a complete and very rare Coventry Climax engine for my 1938 Series 1!

Mindful of the need to remove tool tray to access rear suspension, axle etc. at least once a year, I decided to fit threaded inserts into wood screw holes and use setscrews to retain tray.

I chose M4 inserts as front wood lip is relatively narrow. These screw into 5mm clearance holes in wood with hex key to sit flush. M4 x 16mm countersunk screws were found to be the right length to secure my aluminium custom tool tray. This worked fine for the five front and side screws but the single central rear fixing was as OE a longer screw at shallow slant angle into wood backed by aluminium. Here I had to be more inventive as the inserts simply wouldn't work. Eventually found that a 6mm hole allowed snug fit of M4 rivnut tapped into place with epoxy glue, and using longer M4 screw. Job done with no worries of worn woodscrew holes in the future.

Rog, it looks like Librands have taken over the Heart of England bases. I have them fitted and as you say, they are significantly better than the standard items.

Removed the bonnet strap, never really got on with it, just seems to make opening the bonnet harder!
