Thanks for that. Can I ask did car and classic take 5% of your sale price? If you choose to accept an offer made through the Car & Classic portal and use the secure payment system, then you'll pay 5% + VAT of the sale price. I sold my Morgan with the Auto Trader and chose the unlimited add option for £85.

Cool. I obviously misread their bumph as I thought the ad was free but you paid 5% commission on the sale😁 Exactly the way I read it too. No free lunches in life nowadays!

Car and Classic auctions are a strange thing, too. Last time I looked, you couldn't bid in the last minutes. If you did, it moved the end time by another ten minutes in order to hopefully goad someone that's been outbid into trying again. They also encourage a very high reserve price with sellers too, so that when the auction finishes they spend the next morning phoning the highest bidders encouraging them to rise the offers, which they relay to the seller trying to get them to accept.
We're so used to ebay these days, that practices such as these are a reminder of many forgotten practices. I see Piston Heads are also launching an auction service shortly, so there's money in them thar hills still..
I sold my old Model A on C&C and had no problems, and at free cost too, presumably because the chap that bought it pitched up for a face to face transaction.
My trials car sale was handled by a gent who's setting themselves up as specialists, and as it's such a small niche market, it cost me some commission but went very smoothly in the end.
Well done to you Craig, too. I've only just read your PM.
It's a strange market currently.
Steve

Why not suggest what you would like for the Car here.

Car and classic seems to be where most of the Aeros are advertised but I assume due to the possibility of scammers I’d need to either have a bankers draft or a direct cash transfer into my bank but that’s a hard one as most banks limit the amount you can send in a day and even at a reasonable price I think an S1 is above that limit.
I don’t want to deal with cash that’s for certain!

That might be a good idea as I really want it to go to someone who understands them as I really like my car even though it’s time to move on.

Open a second account (with another bank). An understanding and cooperative buyer will go along with that and pay half the money into each account.

With Lloyds bank, I had to go to a branch to confirm a £35k payment.

I sold my Ferrari a couple of weeks back, all a bit of an impulse, I’ve had it twelves years. Decided on a whim I wanted a 488 spider, made a deal to trade it in but got a fairly low ball deal, phoned an acquaintance who had shown interest in the past, he bought it and paid for it there and then. He had to make payments over three days, then took two weeks to come and get it, if he’s a scammer he’s not very good at it!😀 Oddly enough, I sent the money for the 488 all the same day, the max amount per transaction was £25k but with Santander at least, you can send multiple payments one after another.
