When we bought the plus 6 getting the money together from various accounts was all done on the computer, transferring the money out meant a 45ml round trip to our local bank. The memsahib who is ex Lloyds bank get's into a tizz every time she visits standards have dropped with very little personal contact.

I had a similar situation with TSB when buying the Aero 5 years ago. I had to pay the dealer over a few days which when dealing with a dealer is less stressful as there is a higher level of trust but with an individual I don’t know I don’t think I’d be happy doing things over several days if I were the buyer.

Its quite amazing the differences one finds in the treatment of large transfers of money between the different banks. I've never had any difficulty transferring large sums with Santander (as long as the funds are in the account they will action it) which is not reassuring in one sense but when I sold the Morgan thru a dealer on commission, they used HSBC and had to do 3 different transfers over as many days, because I was a new payee, even though the money was going into my HSBC account.

I think they are all paranoid regarding fraud and money laundering hence the reticence regarding large transfers.

Not just large transfers - I needed to withdraw £3500 cash to pay for the MG. Despite me having a passport and driving licence with me, they were very reticent to let me have it because my signature was different. I explained that the last time they had a signature from me was about 20 years ago, and since then I had smashed up my hand and wrist (and showed them the surgery scars) but it took a good while for them to agree to give me the money!

Beginning to think SOR is the way to go which is a pity for a buyer as the car will be much pricier with a dealer. It does however save me a lot of potential hassle and I’m all for that.

From the experience I had selling an RS6 through autotrader I would say that SOR through a quality dealer would be the best option. They are more practiced at sniffing out muppets and scammers.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I'd tend to agree. Selling privately can be a headache, although with the type and value of your car you'd hopefully be less likely to get "tyre kickers". To state the obvious, if you want to sell the car you need to offer it at a realistic price. In general the value of specialist and classic cars has dropped in the last year or so. I don't see any harm in trying on TM in the first instance to see what response you get.

Cheers for all the input. Will put an ad up on TM tomorrow and then if no takers will either try to trade it in or SOR.
