I moved from a Plus 8 to a Boxster S because I wanted a lightweight performance Roadster with some features not available from Morgan.
1. A powered hood that is 100% waterproof when hood up.
2. A car that when driven on a wet road doesn't spray water on the inside of the screen.
3 A car that has a sophisticated traction control and stability system
4. A car that has a main dealer within 1 hours drive
5. A car with a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds, yet manages 40mpg on a long run
6. A car with luggage space secure inside the boot of the car.
Morgan has to up its game......
Couldn't agree more Peter that Morgan needs to up its game. This year's Plus models look like the ones that should've been offered at launch. The next car will I guess be the first fully developed under new ownership and you'd hope would be good out of the box.
The factory's relationship with its dealers needs to have them all working in the same direction. It often feels like it's Factory V Dealer.
And your list - funnily enough, an Aero does most of that!
1. A powered hood that is 100% waterproof when hood up.
>>> well, no power, but the S5's hood is watertight. On a long wet drive some moisture might creep in past the seals at the doors leading edge
2. A car that when driven on a wet road doesn't spray water on the inside of the screen.
>>> Check! You're fine in an S5 Aero
3 A car that has a sophisticated traction control and stability system
>>> ah, well, no. Although there'd Electronic Brake Distribution on the Aero, likely because it's too hard to take it off
4. A car that has a main dealer within 1 hours drive
>>> Blimey, I have two!
5. A car with a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds, yet manages 40mpg on a long run
>>> Yes, on the acceleration, and 25mpg top down, 30 mpg top up/hardtop, on longer runs.
6. A car with luggage space secure inside the boot of the car.
>>> absolutely - and capacious, once you learn to pack with up-to 40 litre soft bags. Or put a several of cases of wine in the boot. + Then there's even more space in the slot with the roof.
*and* to Em's point, yes, other drivers do let a Morgan out at a junction way more than *any other make of car*. Also, they rarely move out of the fast lane when you want to pass them, because they've no concept of just how quickly your vintage-looking Morgan can go :-)
