Can you hear the fuel pump when you first turn on the ignition prior to cranking the engine? it should run for a few seconds to prime the engine.
It makes a quite distinct sound if you listen in a quiet garage.
If not it could be a failed pump or check the relevant fuse. Assuming the swapped relay was ok. It usually is the relay. It's a common problem.
If you can hear it, start looking elsewhere.

First of all, check whether electrical or fuel. 1. Pull off a plug lead, attach a sparking plug with its body resting on earthed metalwork. Crank engine to see if its sparking. 2. Remove air filter, and spray some easy start or even brake cleaner into the intake whilst cranking engine.

I'd use a meter to check for good volts as close to the pump as possible before pulling things apart ... if you have volts at the last connector before the tank when you should then set to on the pump.

Have you checked wiring to the inertia switch.? Mine was brittle/broken connection. Used to cut out randomly. Check wiring and if necessary break and rejoin with a connector. Solved my issue.. Phil

Have you checked the fuse? Fuse box under the dashboard if it's the same as my old '99 Zetec car

Avoid the Lucas / Bosch ones , they disintegrate on the shelf with age. The Factory now use Chinese ones giving 100%, sorry 99% reliability but I agree with Richard the Durite ones may certainly be worth a go.

Bud 4/4 - Stanley That’s what happened to my car, no start, try the spare key (after several hours faffing about) and away it went
