When I bought my 2011 Plus 4 in 2018, it had only got about 7,500 miles on it. I was the second owner - the original buyer had stopped using it due to ill health, but I think hung on to it in the hope of health improving. I sold it about 18 months later with over 16,000 miles on the clock.

My 4/4 is 9 years old with 39000 miles on the clock. It has never failed to proceed but I am fastidious about maintenance and preventative work. Potential failure points are mostly around plastic capped radiators - either choose a car that has been already changed to an aluminium radiator or budget for the change. I had mine changed at the first service post warranty expiry. 2014 or thereabouts 4/4 and +4 suffered from weak rear springs. Again, check that they have been changed or budget for an upgrade. In this case, my preference would be to budget for an upgrade - that way you get to choose the springs that are fitted. Cars without spare wheels are not that easy to change rear springs on as access is restricted. Kings pins & bushes are wear items - my first set lasted 38000 miles but others report much lower mileages. Key improvement is a gaiter on the rebound spring to keep road grit away from the king pin & lower bush. When replacing, insist on hard chrome pins and ensure the reaming is done by someone who knows what they are doing. Cars with limited use can suffer from rear brake cylinder leaks if brake fluid goes unchanged for extended periods. Not expensive to fix either at a dealer or DIY. Welcome to TM Roy from a 2014 plus 4 duratec owner. It was fairly low mileage when I bought it but as others have said, most are fair weather cars. My first holiday took us from Aberdeenshire to Malvern , a factory visit and time spent driving in the Cotswolds. Year two took us as far south as Milan with no issues whatsoever so I wouldn't worry about low milage. If you're a hands on type of person you'll always find something to do on the car though 😄

Hi Roy, you don’t say where you are. Perhaps someone local would take you under their wing if you did?

I live near Macclesfield, however I am in Italy/Sicily until early November. We have a motorhome and travel quite a bit…. Not as much as before the 90 day limit mind you…. Those who know…. Know
