My Morgan handbook says that the 1595cc Sigma engine has chain driven camshafts. Michael Palmer's 4/4 book shows, and lists belt driven cams. My dealer told me the cams were chain driven.
Does anyone know the truth? If the cams are, as I suspect, belt driven what is the specified belt change frequency?

don't panic Ford Zetecs are 10 years 100,000 miles.
Modern fords are now chain driven..

I agree that they are usually 100,000 mile changes BUT ..the Ford Sigma (aka Zetec SE) has BELT driven cams. I think only the Duratec's (as in Plus 4) have chain drive but I might be wrong there..

The latest Ford Sigma engines are belt driven. I wonder what the issue would be if replacement of the cam belt was overlooked as a result of the handbook stating the cams were chain driven and the belt failed?

An expensive bill would be the outcome. As a customer you expect the Dealer to know. Most customers wouldn't recognise a cambelt if it hit them in the face.............

I suspect the reason the handbook says chain is because it is based upon the last 4/4 which had a 1600cc Duratec engine like the 2.0 in the Plus 4.

Sigma 1600 has glass fibre reinforced long life belt, 100,000 miles/10 yrs

If these engines had chain driven cams wouldn't they sound like a 'proper' twin cam aka Lotus?

I thought the engine previous to the 1600 Sigma was the 1.8 Duratec so really Morgan should not have got the handbook wrong.

From memory; 4/4s came with Zetec 1.8s (belt) upto about 2005 and then went to the 1.8 Duratec (chain).
My 4/4 is a Zetec and though Ford say belt change every 100,000 miles; I had mine done at 7 years old for peace of mind.
