Hey chaps....
I read the thread from a few years back recommending a 280mm fuel sender instead the 250mm sender Morgan installed in the pre 2015 3-wheelers. It appears there is only a 310mm model available at Merlin these days. Does anyone know off hand if this would be too long to install? Next time I have the boot liner out I can check myself, but I was hoping someone on the forum may already know the answer...?
Cheers!

Unlikely a 310mm one would fit Will, but why not buy the 280mm still available from various sources in the UK. Below is one. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/265x265/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/v/d/vdo-dip-tube-fuel-level-sender-5-hole-top-mount-type-280mm.jpg)

I have given up on the fuel senders having had it replaced once and it soon died again. I just use the trip odometer and fill up every 200km. I am sure it would do 300km easily but rather safe than sorry.

Try Demon Tweeks in the UK https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/vdo-dip-tube-type-fuel-sender-for-vdo-gauge-389218/ Not the cheapest at £103, they were less than £50 not long ago. Anything longer than the 280mm will not fit. Wilson, you should be able to do 300km between fill ups easily. I cross check the gauge (mine is almost believable!) to the odometer and 200 miles is fine with usually something in the mid to high 20's litres at refill. If the indications are really random, remove the sender unit and take the cover off, carefully. You can gently clean the two fine wires with some very fine abrasive and that often restores the steady(ish) indication. I find this works for about two years before another clean is required. Maybe something to do with me not using the car over the winter months and surface corrosion on the wires?

I doubt the 310 would fit. When I installed the 280 it seemed a tight fit but works well. I do not use the digital in dash fuel gauge but installed a real full sweep needle indicator that works just fine. It is the far righthand gauge under the dash. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/07/12/CD342E98-F527-45C6-BB1A-6F92E25E84E4_1_105_c.jpeg)

Fitting the longer fuel sender does not make the fuel gauge work any better. You just get a different random fuel level figure and the gauge goes to zero with a little less fuel in the tank. As others have said use the trip meter

The longer sender helps a bit, but not that much. I changed mine, but after a few months the new sender’s internal wire broke, so I put the factory one back. The longer one does seem to take a little longer to register empty, but it’s still shows empty long before the tank is.
If you do want to make the change, find the thread here about adding a parallel resistor to make it read correctly.
