I watched a bit before going to the pub this evening. I thought at the time the front grill and bumper looked a bit wonky, and the photos on the advert seem to confirm that. It might just be the angle, but it was evident on both the TV and photos.

And I agree about the hoses! They'd have to go.

Wow! 100% mark up, that's some profit, not that I think they'll be able to sell it at that price. I hadn't noticed the wonky front bumper on the TV but it is very obvious in the photos.

Whatever the auction, from a local roup to a big mart I'm always happy to be bidding against dealers ... they have their running costs and one eye on their mark-up ...I just have the depth of my pocket and desire to own it to consider.

Well not quite. The original buyer would have had about £2.5k in buyer's premium on top of the hammer price. The registration plate is difficult to value but similar examples seem to be £5k minimum. But still around £20K profit for someone, if it sells.

It looks like the Mathewson's buyer moved it on quite quickly, the V5 on the Car&Classic site still shows it registered to John McDonald.

The Mathewsons buyer was the dealer who now has it listed.

John MacDonald was a long time Morgan Main dealer and a Morgan racer in his younger days. I bought my first Morgan, a Plus 8, from him many years ago. I'm not surprised that the car is immaculate and I'd expect the engine to be "developed" as John usually extracted extra performance from his cars.

He's a true gentleman and I'm pleased to see that he's still on the go.

Really? Are you sure? The buyer was named on the show as Jim Edwards. He said that he hadn't considered a Morgan before because he'd never come across them. There is no one of that name associated with V&P and they have sold several Morgans in the past.

My own 4/4 was originally supplied by I&J McDonald in 1980 and came fitted with twin Webbers from new. I'm a bit surprised John chose to sell this car through Mathewsons.

The V5 shown in the ad also states "Acquired vehicle on 01-10-2019", so what's that all about ?

It's possible I've been misinformed but surprising if he's sold it on so quickly and with no ownership record.

I'm also surprised that John chose Mathewsons, with his background and contacts I would have thought he could have sold it privately.

I was a bit puzzled when the rarity of this car was mentioned, as I know of four +4 DHCs here in the wilds of British Columbia. A closer look revealed that there is a distinction here that was not made clear during the programme. This car is a "SnobMog", the Four-Seater version of the DHC and a much rarer beast than the 2-seat version.
