Peter H,
Many years ago I used to race karts and I used R for the two stroke mix. I did not like keeping the fuel for too long between meets so some often ended up in the car. Then cat converters came along so that had to stop. I was left with putting the fuel in the lawn mower! I did make that job a bit more enjoyable.

Back in the day used to tip R40 into the tank of my classic Triumph at about 50 to 1 and called it upper cylinder lubricant. Used to smell magnifico.

Chickened out of bestowing it on the Blade as didn’t fancy risk of gumming up the works.

Wouldn’t add it to the Mog for similar reason. Also vegetable oil doesn’t mix with mineral oil.

My Plus8 was always close to the lambda upper limit on MOT tests. I used V-Power petrol regularly. One year I had been using E10 for a few fill-ups as no no E5 available, up to MOT time. That test came out lower for lambda. I am wondering if the extra ethanol helped. E5/ E10 were stated as “up to” content so no guarantee of how much at any one time so not the best assumption on effect.
My mate took the cars for MOT as he was a tester. He advised trying Cataclean but no guarantee of effect. Another mate also suggested petrol from the big companies not small outlets/supermarkets as the market was based on cost of supply and additives cut back on to sell to these outlets for cost reduction. He was in international vehicle recovery ( including a lot of police work) and his contacts told him about the additives situation.

In my impoverished early motoring days I bought more than one packet of those. I see they still make them, surprisingly.

Also in my tool bag back then would be Radweld for water leaks and Easystart for cold mornings, both of these still on the shelves at Halfords today.

I'm not sure about Radweld but Easystart definitely did the business.

Radweld never worked on my first Land Rover. Eventually we took the rad out and had it brazed.
EasyStart or the OZ equivalent:
