The V5 shown in the ad also states "Acquired vehicle on 01-10-2019", so what's that all about ? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/09/30/Plus-4-drophead-V5-cropped.jpeg) Nice of the company to gives us John's address and the location of some of the other classic cars in his collection

I was a bit puzzled when the rarity of this car was mentioned, as I know of four +4 DHCs here in the wilds of British Columbia. A closer look revealed that there is a distinction here that was not made clear during the programme. This car is a "SnobMog", the Four-Seater version of the DHC and a much rarer beast than the 2-seat version. That had confused me too, you're right, they didn't make that clear. Every day's a school day. I see there is a dedicated website for them: snobmog.comA search for "Snobmog" in Morganville Registry brings up 50 examples but I suspect they have erroneously applied the label to a number of 2-seaters. The Bangers & Cash model - chassis T3089 - is in the registry as belonging to a gentleman called Tony Pollard in Tynemouth and actually isn't marked as a Snobmog. I still find something a little iffy about this.

Nice of the company to gives us John's address and the location of some of the other classic cars in his collection It's extraordinary that they post the entire V5 on their website, I'm sure there's a GDPR issue there.

It’s alright, above the reference number it says, “don’t share, keep it safe” . You can actually request a replacement V5 in your own name with that information, you’ll even get to keep the private reg.

^^^ Yes that was my thought. In fact with the reference number on the V5, I think you could reassign that registration to another car with a few clicks online! The more I look at it the more suspicious I am of this car. This is not my specialist subject so I'm more than happy to be corrected, but has there ever been a 4-seater of any type with twin spare wheels? I've never seen one and none of the reference books in my possession shows one. I wonder if this is really a 2-seater with individual front seats and a nicely upholstered rear space behind? ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2023/10/01/1954-morgan-plus-4-rear-2.md.jpeg) As others have mentioned, the car has a definite "lopsided" look from the front. On the programme, the grill appears to be tilted towards the offside. In the sale pictures the effect is worsened by the front bumper apparently also having an offside droop. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2023/10/01/1954-morgan-plus-4-drophead-coupe.md.jpeg) Add to that the DVLA saying first registered in 2000 and I'm doubting that this car is as rare or genuine as is claimed. As I say, I'm happy to be corrected.

Good point. Didn't the DHC have a 'boot' instead of the open spare wheels? Here's another 4 Seat DHC

Pretty sure You're right Ian. The side windows aren't long enough for a four seater. I wonder could it be one of Harper's mods? Nick

Well well well, what an interesting link. A 4-seater DHC on Brightwell's auction site with a hammer price of £30,000. This one is also listed on the Morganville register but marked as a "Snobmog" and owned by one John MacDonald of Durham!

Whilst on the subject the registered engine capacity is suspect on OXR 5 as well at 1960cc. Could be a simple mistake but should be 1991 or 2138cc dependant on the TR3 or TR4 source I would have thought.

Nick There are lot more photos on the VandP site here: 1954-morgan-plus-4-drophead-coupe which includes the contents of the build file. It seems the car was bought for £5k as a rolling chassis with "scrap body" in August 1996. There are bills totalling £35,725 for parts, including new chassis and body from MMC and other parts from Melvyn Rutter, Heart of England, Holdens and George Proudfoot (the latter for the side screens). The upholstery and hood were by Berni Lewis. Lots more invoices, including £30 to Do-It-All for MDF! The labour isn't detailed, it is merely noted as "accounted for by Martyn Smith or Tony Pollard" so presumably Martyn started the job and the subsequent owner Tony finished it. The restoration was completed in October 2000 and the DVLA were approached to re-register it with its original number. My conclusion is that this is an "older restoration" 2-seater DHC.
