It's not really possible to judge colours from a 40-year-old film converted to a video stream, but even then the cowl and bonnet look different to me.
I fast-forwarded it with the sound off, but there's (a different car ?) later on at 1:28:41, maybe somebody who understands the plot can explain........

One up on me, I'd never got that far. All I know is Colby (married to Cheryl Ladd in the film) is chatted up in the Opera Bar, gives a lift to a femme fatale on the excuse of loving his Morgan, and she invites him up to see her etchings. She subsequently accuses him of rape and mayhem ensues. Shez obviously had a matching Mog, who knew, though I have often wondered what the solid red Morgan on the poster was about? I believe the book (novel?) was set in San Francisco, but in the early 80s Australia was becoming a "destination" probably some tourism money thrown around to make this tripe. I don't remember ever being able to drive under the Opera House like in the film, you certainly can't now, but there is an underground car park nearby which they might have used. I had thankfully also forgotten AIr Supply's "Now and Forever" which was quite the hit here at least. I'm also not aware of a prison (I guess that is what is happening at the end) on the Hawkesbury only accessible by boat with armed guards, how very Alcatraz.
Back to the case at hand, I don't think my grey is quite as flat as the black (which looks stunning btw). I'd also not spotted the colour mismatch in the movie, but I had never paused it either. So she must have had the bonnets resprayed before 1983 for some reason, bearing in mind she was only 5 years old then. The wings look quite orange in the still, they are much redder than that in reality. Might take another picture from the side if I get a chance this weekend, to give you another look. The more I think about it, the more I think I'll just leave her alone, and see if I can clean up what's there a little.

It seems that it's Cheryl Ladd's character who owns the Morgan hence the "JESSIE" registration, the name of Ladd's character. She is seen driving it later in the film. In the final scene, she collects her husband from prison in the red Morgan. I can't spot any revelation about why her car has changed colour, I suspect your two-toned one wasn't available so they used another one: hiding most of it behind a tree in the hope nobody would notice!
According to IMDB Cheryl Ladd bumped into Air Supply at the hotel and suggested that they write the theme tune, they delivered the song the following morning and recorded it in the afternoon. The production values of this movie were obviously not high! Danielle Steele has apparently written 141 novels to date and this is so far the only one anyone has bothered to make into a movie. I think that's probably enough said!
