Thanks for that, John. Fortunately I used only a small amount and all on the inside, around the tract and butterfly - so only aluminium was involved. In fact there was very little black stuff in the throttle body anyway.

Struggling with a technique for squeezing the side tabs of the clip in order to pull the tube from the manifold spigot.

Cannot get any meaningful purchase with my fingers. Mole grips are too large and impeded by other pipes and cables. A pair of pliers impedes vision of what is going on. Any suggestions from good folk who have succeeded on this?

Before I have a further attempt, is the arrowed item on my pic below actually the clip in question?

Yes. you have the correct part. It is very awkward and I failed quite a bit before it finally succumbed. Try pushing it further onto the spigot before squeezing to release and pull off. Once the clips are released it comes off quite easily.

This was not a five minute job but eventually success came in detaching the breather connection. Detached the windscreen washer bottle to give some elbow room, placed a mirror on a wooden offcut wedged to the inner wing, hung a small torch from a heater tube, applied a good squirt of silicone spray on the clip and maneouved a small flat bladed screwdriver with the aid of the mirror to prize the clip off.

Next task will be to insert a bung into the inlet manifold hole - about 15mm ID. Then fix a long hose to the male portion of the plastic right angled connector - about 9.5mm ID. All done by feel with subsequent verification via the mirror!

Well done for getting it off. Surprised you needed to lever it off, but whatever worked is good. I found the OD of the inlet manifold connection to be around 12-13mm. Totally agree John, in fact a significant amount of oil residue is likely to arrive that way. With low mileage engines, the crankcase won't be "pressurised", but the oil droplets will get sucked through, although my breather wasn't oily at all.
We're stuck with this design fault, and I suppose all we can do is use decent oil, and keep an eye on it.
