I am pretty certain that if Mrs F had a stern word with an engine, the oil would curdle and it would never run again.

Taking all the arguments of this discussion into account, I am now considerung to re-connect the PCV valve to the intake manifold and buy a walnut blasting device and regularly (every 5.000km or so) do it myself.
If anyone gets to come to Hamburg, just send me a PM if you're interested in some nut blasting shades

Having been following this thread, and having asked a few questions, I bit the bullet and removed the intake manifold on my GDi. It's a 2020 with 9300 miles on the clock. Needless to say I found the valves had carbon build up, however the no.1 cylinder (nearest the rad) was particularly bad - maybe due to the rusted spark plug on that cylinder?:

You can see the before and after pictures of each pair of valves:

I decided to fit a small catch can and re-route the vent from the sump via the catch can. I know some people have done this and have then vented to air, however I decided to vent back into the inlet manifold. My thinking is that the car has been designed to have a negative pressure in the sump, and the vacuum from the inlet manifold will draw the oil mist and fumes into the can. Only time will tell if it works, but at least I feel I am trying to do something to keep he valves cleaner than they would otherwise be.

Hose connection to the outlet from the sump:

Bigles,
that's a good job and a nice catch can installation.

Great looking job Les! Would you keep us all posted as to how it works out.

Am I correct in thinking that your catch can has no venting to atmosphere thus making sure that the vacuum from the manifold is pulling directly from the sump via the can and does the can feature a filter or baffles to catch the oily residue, well some of it anyway we hope.

The catch can has no vent to air, all I am doing is adding the catch can to the circuit: sump vent - catch can - inlet manifold. The can has a baffle plate below the inlet to condense the vapours, and a brass filter on the outlet side to the inlet manifold:

Les, this is what you should be seeing if you scroll down from image.

The link you want is "BBCode" listed under "Full image" - just copy and paste directly into your post since it already has the image tags.

I've sorted it now. When I click on the thumbnail to get the larger image, I then have to double click that to get the codes. I've amended my posts, maybe the other posts trying to help me could be deleted now?

Thanks for the assistance.
