I am firmly convinced that all control units or ECUs can be simulated in the future. Our concerns relate to the hardware of today, but if the circuits and their tasks are available, the future will deliver flexible solutions. It's just a question of demand and the market. In the same way that it will be possible to recreate components from 1960s cars that are no longer available today using a 3D printer, it will also be possible to simulate control algorithms.

I agree. When in a factory we found a great engineer who would make components for us. Both old machinery and new. It saved us big amounts of money. Manufacturers were charging silly money for basic, simple parts. Another factor was who we sourced parts from. We had preferred suppliers due to combinations of quality, performance and cost. Some even worked with us to develop and improve parts. Machine failure and downtime were costly so it made sense to avoid/reduce failures. Unfortunately, too many companies place cost reduction too high above fitness for purpose. Why keep buying their sub-standard products that cause problems? This applies as well to electronic components and software.
