Thank you RichardV6 for the excellent description. You gave me the courage to try it as well and I succeeded! Symptom was that I could not toggle between high beam and dipped beam. It just went dark instead. Failure after 30000km. Trad Plus4 2019.
I managed to access the copper strip for the horn without removing the steering wheel. Replacement part for the light stalk is a Lucas OEM STC4017 from www.landy-scheune.de

BTW the copper horn strip can be ordered as a Honda Civic 1987-1992 part 35259-SH3-A02 (Made in Japan)

Glad it went well for you Werni. Good info on source of horn pickup brass strip as well if you can't re-use previous thumbs

in cause of non-working driving lights I‘m affraid, the MOG needs a new stalk.

So I have a look around about the STC4017 switch. There are LUCAS and BRITPART available, there is a massive difference in the pricetag. Is there also a difference in quality?

I used a BritPart window motor on my Discovery 4 and had no problems. However, a window motor is fitted out of sight - I cannot comment on the finish on a BritPart stalk.

Looking on Land-Rover forums, there seem to be as many negative comments on Lucas as there are on BritPart.

I used to be quite heavily involved in the LR scene, and BRITPART was often referred to as SH*TPART.

However, many dealers I spoke to rated them highly - they said that due to the enormous amount of stuff they produced and shifted, even a 99.99% success rate would still result in a considerable number of problems.

My rule of thumb was if it was a relatively easy and quick to fix/replace then go for Britpart. If it took several hours to fit, then I'd go for a more expensive alternative.

These people have a good name too among the farming community.

Including shipping to you. For comparison.

Despite the well known name of Lucas, be careful, they actually went pop in the late 90's and were just acquired for the recognisable name and logo, most of the 'stuff' is made in the far east and some is very poor quality (like those hydraulic brake switches)

People see the familiar white & green box and subconsciously click...buy now
