Had the rear brake cylinder seize on my 2016. Replaced the cylinder (you do not want to know what these cost in the US) When I put the thing back together I found that as I tighten the axle nut, the brakes bind up??? Will be taking it apart again today to see if there is anything evident. Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening??

Did you get the washer/spacers in exactly the same sequence? I did NOT the first time I did it and got the dragging of the rear wheel when spun manually. Maybe there chould be a connection? I know that the orientation of the washers makes a difference and maybe it has an effect on the brakes. Did you take good photos of things before you pulled it apart?

I was thinking along the same lines. I did not take a picture, does anyone have a picture or drawing of the correct orientation?

If you have a look on the MTWC website there is a full set of instructions detailing how to remove the rear wheel, brake drum, axle etc. including a great photo of what the brake should look like on page 14 of those instructions. This set of instructions by Calum (Red Three on here) are freely available, as is a lot of other information for the M3W on the MTWC website. Had the rear brake cylinder seize on my 2016. Replaced the cylinder (you do not want to know what these cost in the US) Should have checked the alternative parts list first. I found one of the listed alternatives on eBay for less than $20. The rear brake on these cars is less than optimal, to be polite. I've purchased the rear disc conversion (see thread on this forum) but haven't installed it yet.

Did you take good photos of things before you pulled it apart? it took me a couple of times to get them right. next time I will take pictures Yes, it's worth carefully documenting the order of components on your car's rear spindle as you're dismantling them. MMC apparently tried a few different approaches so not all cars have the same components in the same order. Therefore, there is no definitive 'right way' to do it. Put everything back the same as it came off your car and you should be OK.
