Not any kind of expert on the TC but I believe they resolved the engine problems right at the end just before it was discontinued ... I would guess any specialist rebuilder would incorporate those mods (and any subsequently developed in the wild) in any rebuild .... such an interesting engine it seens a pity not to have it in a car running about. Made the MGA a decent period performer to match the looks

Thanks everyone. I will refer all the above to our neighbour and also try to understand exactly what he is worrying about.

The twin cam punched way above the norm when produced, unfortunately a gallon of Duckhams every 1500 to 2000 miles was not unusual and went out of tune very quickly.I have no doubt with more modern internals you would get more reliability .There are so many better upgrades available today but if you have a genuine Mga twin cam to keep it authentic you need to keep the engine. A mate of mine has a Twin cam plus a total re build MGA from Oselli with a 1950 I think and its a real peach quite well known in the Mg scene. Em

The go to Twin Cam man in the UK is Peter Wood (Westwood Portway).

I'd say its essential to keep the twin cam engine in the car, they are now rare and with modern materials and knowledge can be built to be reliable and fast. Anything else will devalue it and probably cause regulatory issues in Italy.

The bad reputation came from them melting pistons due to the fuel supply going over lean at revs. This can be sorted but I would only go to Peter or a specialist with lots of experience of these engines.

By the way, i don't pop on here much these days, but have a '57 MGA with an Oselli 1950 stage 2 engine, its a delight. Simple to maintain, cheap as chips to run and great fun!

Best regards

A well sorted MGA is hugely impressive. I've only ridden in one well sorted A, but it blew my mind.
