I'm trying to upload an avatar photo to my profile, but not having any success. I have reduced the size to less than 100X100 pixels and uploaded it to the Talk Morgan Image site but, when I put the URL into the profile page, I get and "Improper Image Type" message. Am I missing something?

Simply host the full size image to your external site of choice as you would if posting an image. Then copy the image link ending in .jpg, .gif. or .png (as per example) and paste into avatar link box within "Edit Profile", ignoring the 100 x 100 size limit, and save. You then have an avatar sharp enough to allow zooming in.

Improper image type is likely to mean that it is saved as the wrong file type.

The file has to be saved as a jpg png or gif. - the file name would end up being nameoffile.png or nameoffile.jpg

This is in addition to the 100x100 pixel limitation if it is to be uploaded to the site and used.

As Richard highlights you can host an image on another picture hosting site and use a link but this is probably more complex.
I have a file saved to the partner site tm-img and use this to provide my avatar.

Modern software will often save as more complex file types some of which can be found here if you want to check them - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_file_format

If you have an image in the wrong format then the easiest way of migrating it to be used is to open it in a picture editing application and try and do a "save as" then look if there is a jpg etc.

A general hint: As Alistair suggests many images on web pages (if available to copy) have the suffix .webp, copying then editing suffix to a TM acceptable .jpg allows them to be displayed on this forum. This can be useful to show an image of a product for example.

BTW it makes no difference to complexity if you use any other external image hosting site since tm-img is also external to the TM forum. Note also images above 100 x 100 can be used succesfully to avoid fuzzy avatars hence my comment this limit can be ignored.

That's what is happening. The TM Imge website is converting it to a .jpeg...

Is there any way to correct this? The link to TM-Img clearly works...

What are you using to save the photo a phone/tablet/computer?
I doubt the TM Image site is converting to .jpeg - it doesn't convert any of my .jpg files to .jpeg.
You should be able to edit the filename of your photo on your device, then save to the TM Image server. I haven't checked whether the file names can be edited once uploaded.

You can if you open the file and then click on it. Choose Edit image.

MacBook Pro. This is the file name as it appears on the computer: IMG_6028crop.jpg, and when I drop it onto the TM Image site, it shows up as in my post above.
