P.S. I did come up with a helpful tweak for the Morgan Roadster AC systems.[/quote]

I would be interested in that tweak, my A/C is pathetic.

I think that the thinking with the heat exchanger is to put heat into the oil at cold start up, but also maybe to cool the oil when running hot.

I don'r think anyone mentioned the tradiator cap on the S1 Roadster....there's also a sealed cap on the all metal radiators. I'm not sure if that was carried over into the S2 and plastic end cap radiators.

DaveW thanks for the heads up on the heat exchanger. I guess in terms of oil cooling it would be a toss up relative to temp differential of both fluids as to whatever advantage might be found in transferring extra heat to the coolant via the oil when the engine is running at max temps..? I guess there will be a tipping pointand someone with better brains than I has worked that out...Hopefully..(-:

As I suggested I might imagine that heating the oil as quickly from cold might be the primary purpose... Though I have been wrong before..!

Next time I run the 991 and get it up to temp I will try to find out id indeed the expansion tank cap just spins, or if it begins to unscrew....Interesting topic this, thanks guys. Every day is a schold day...(-:

Don't be sorry. I enjoy learning and that includes being corrected. When I refuse to learn, I know the end is nigh.

But look up the part # on the cap and google current Ford cyclone forums and the definitions of what it is. That might clarify a bit.

But you might be right in the sense that Ford uses one of the newer type systems. Closed or a blend of expansion and recovery.
Let's not get into that gamut. We are having trouble merely with the traditional expansion versus recovery. ooo laugh2 I am interested in systems I can interact with.

I'd like to point out that the boxed quote allegedly from me above is NOT me

Let me search for my notes. If I find them. I shall start a new thread under "Trad Air Conditioning".
