My 4K panels and battery back up broke even after 8 years! I'm now about £7,000 in profit, tax free. That's not including the energy I saved, just the initial outlay. I did get the FiT at its highest level, though.

Bob, great to read that you are in profit. I guess the other important point is that you have cut down on the size of your carbon footprint to some degree. Sorry to read of failings in your kit. By comparison similar kit was used to get to the moon and back (how many years ago?), and has been powering space exploration and satellites for decades...All of which suggests to me that all that kind of kit could be made much more reliable for something as simple as an alternative power resource for home installation.... Perhaps my expectations relative to engineering advance are misplaced...?
Seems I have started the new year as grumpy as I left the old one....
