Hi,
Has anybody experience of putting one of these on a Plus 8? I've been on the internet and can find many positive comments from people who've had them in Range Rovers etc but not in a Morgan. I'm sure there must be someone out there who has made the mod. I'm not looking to massively increase the bhp but rather to improve the cars drivability. Any performance gain would be a bonus. Having driven my car for maybe only 500 miles or so I just feel the engine isn't always particularly happy just trundling around the countryside. If I put my foot down there is nothing wrong with the power, just that for most of the time it does not feel as smooth as it should. Before anyone asks, the car has just been serviced by BHM so I am sure there is nothing that requires adjustment. I've had experience of the engine in RR x 2, a Rover Vitesse, a TVR Griffith and an early Plus 8 and can only surmise that maybe all of the emission regs have gradually strangled the engine so that it is not performing as it could.Any advice gladly welcome. Thanks. Paul

Hi Paul,
I've just tried (unsuccessfully) to look at Gomog, because I recall reading somewhere about the different fueling maps used on the V8s. Despite what we might expect, I'm sure that it said that the Morgan map was specific to the Plus 8 and different from the other applications.
The only reason that I thought that the article may help is because it suggests that a chip designed for one application may not suit another.
Having said that I have no experience of the later EFI, although I'm sure that there will be plenty of others who have.

The Gems V8's were delivered with standard Range Rover fuel maps. For the 4.6 models particularly this compromised the running. Mark Adams developed maps specifically for Morgan which are widely acclaimed. Somewhat tongue-in-cheek I would suggest that a Mark Adams chip is mandatory for a 4.6....
Having said all that Paul's +8 is a Hotwire which I know nothing about.

Mark can be difficult to get hold of - I have a telephone number for him if you need it. He is acknowledged as a guru when it comes to the V8. When I met him he was running an immaculate red Sierra with a v8 engine. He did the work on my plus four and transformed it. It appears that Rovers timing was very conservative and Mark found that by advancing it he gained 30bhp with no other modifications bar filter and manifold. He is the man to talk with.

p.s. re: Mark Adams. There is an interesting article over on the Rovertech site under the heading; interesting conversation on the nasp M16 engine.

Found the article and as I thought it only refers to the flapper EFI system as follows:
"The serial number 83986 (A or the later B) is the designed for a Rover Vitesse Sedan and came with the stock Morgan Plus 8s of that era. Easy to deal with. It has a flat fueling profile that serves the whole rpm range. Good option. Harder to find. Then you have two skewed fuel maps which can be made serve; 84477 is a Range River profile with very good low and mid-range fueling but will (without other measures) not allow you to rev much above 5000. Very good for acceleration though when properly set-up. Easy to find The 84941 skews the other way...a sold mid-range and high rpm but not a powerful at lower range."
However there are lots of references to all V8 applications on GOMOG and well worth a look.

Hi Thanks for the replies.
Will look into it in a bit more detail in the spring when I can get the car out for a longer run. Paul
