Drill bit! ... bunch of barbarians!! 🙂 .... my wonderfully minimal keyring has one key (no door handles) and a tommy bar for the various knobs ... doesn't disturb the line of the italian suits I always wear (🤣) and nothing to identify it as belonging to the Morgan outside if I leave it on a pub table while I get my round in 🙂

Here's how much longer the screws I used, it looks less in the image but they're actually 7mm longer, just enough to give a good bite into fresh timber.



And for a belt and braces approach here's the epoxy I used, my hope is it's built up and strengthened the worn threads the original factory wood screws chewed into the ash door frame back in late 2011 when Monty was first built?



The combination of longer screws and a smear of wood specific epoxy on their threads does seem to have done the trick, but only time will tell if it's a permanent solution to the new screws backing out as the old ones kept doing

And here's how the Torx security screws look as a replacement to the original cross heads that you can see are currently still in use on the door handle escutcheon, but soon to be replaced too.

I think you'd need to be an OCD concourse judge with a magnifying glass to spot the difference.



And in practice from a bit further back than staring right at them from a few inches away, it's impossible to see they're no longer the original cross heads.

I found that you can think the door is closed but infact it's not quite closed and you end up with gaps where the wind gets in. The door catch has 2 clicks and with the side screens on we were not pulling hard enough to get to the 2nd click.

So today I fitted some cheap door handles from Car builder, they fold down when not in use.

Just screwed into the Ash top rail of the door, I didn't think they will come loose but if they do, I'll fit some screw inserts.

As a model maker I have tried many different adhesives over the years. Just an observation, I meticulously DON'T mix-up the caps (which is what inserting the wood screws into the nozzles effectively does), as there's a curious property of epoxy to go off in the tubes over a few weeks when even a tiny amount of hardener mixes with the resin. Really annoying when you go to use it next time.

I once had a door fly open when negotiating a roundabout. So now, before every trip, having closed the door, I try the internal lock. If the door isn’t latched properly, the little locking lever will only go half way round the quadrant, whereas if it is fully latched, it will go the whole way, giving some reassurance.
