Had my Weber twin 40s rebuilt in November. I have seen a video of the carbs working at the company who did the work, all ok. Well since then I have had fun and games. At first one of the carbs kept flooding. The reason was a small piece of the rubber from the hose had stopped the needle valve from working. That was the size of this full stop. Anyway since then she has not started. I have noticed the plugs are getting wet, so it's not a fuel issue. I have checked the fuel pressure and that is ok. I have ensured the battery is fully charged, plus using a battery booster, still not starting. So I'm thinking sport coil , although the plugs have a spark or could it be the distributor, advance and retard? The car has electronic ignition system.
If it is the distributor how do I set it up?

Your help in the TM world is, as normal greatly appreciated.
Have a good week.

Regards

You don't say what engine the Weber carbs are fitted to? O
If you have fuel and a spark then it should start unless the ignition timing is out ?

Have you got the spark plug leads back on the correct plugs?

Could be a fuel issue, perhaps if you buy a can of Easy Start to see if it fires up on that.... Do be careful read the instructions on how to use it if you have not used it before..

Arwyn - in the signature it says 1976 4/4 so assuming Xflow (I think if you access the forum from a mobile, you don't get to see the signatures).

Dave - as Arwyn says - as you've got a spark and fuel it could be a plug lead issue - anti clockwise rotation and firing order 1-2-4-3.

And if there was a bit of rubber in the float valves - could there possible be a tiny bit blocking the idle jets? I had this issue with mine, but it was a Weber 32/36 DGV.

Dave you make no mention as to whether the engine even attempts to fire or even misfire...and that the plugs are found to be wet... which caused me to suggest a fuel issue, though forgot to mention my thinking was on the quality of the fuel. Modern fuels seem not to age well failing to ignite when a spark plug fires, thus my suggestion of trying some easy start which would perhaps assist in fuel quality assessment..?

The bit of rubber, yeah well modern fuels reportedly can cause issues relating to fuel line materials degrading, though also worth considering is that when pushing a rubber tube back on to a metal fuel line the tube can nick the very edge of the inner diameter of the rubber fuel line, causing it to enter the carbs, though my dim memory thinks that there may be fuel filtration in the area of the carbs fuel supply connection which should inhibit even something as small as you found from entering the float bowl needle..?

If it does not even bang or f*rt, but sparks are present....I would start with the simple stuff...

Given the normal pump jet ops on Webber`s regardless of any jet function I would expect it to try to fire....?

Claiming zero expertise and just thinking in type...

Feedback required to try to assist you further Dave..?

Many thanks for your suggestions. Yes the engine is a Ford Crossflow uprated to 1700. As for engine it doesn't fire over, it nearly does but then the starter motor cut out. As Arwyn has suggested I will check the leads.

Regards
Dave
