My first Land Rover had a "Start" button on the bulkhead, just ahead of the gear levers

A start button and keyless starting are two different things.

I don't care much about a start button when you have to turn on the ignition with a key but I do like the convenience of a keyless start.

I am not so keen on proximity keyless entry and prefer the remote control (key button) system. Having said that I have had no experience of the keyless proximity system but it does seem to me that there are many stories of theft resulting from remotely copying or relaying the codes from a proximity entry fob.

One worry with a keyless system is that it is sometimes possible to start the car and drive away when the key fob is near but not actually in the car, say dropped on the ground when getting in, left on the roof, or somesuch. You only discover this the next time you stop the car by which time you could be miles away.

I suspect we may have sold so much more than we realise for the sake of convenience....?

The incident I typed of earlier in this thread where two broken legs and two damaged cars were the unfortunate outcome, where it seems there would have been so many inputs to the plc/ecu that might have been programmed to avoid the incident ever happening...? I suspect that had an old fashioned manually operated handbrake or ignition key system been in use in the Evoque the accident seems very unlikely to have occurred...? But then one button push to either start or stop the engine which then automatically operates the handbrake, just seems so very convenient..?

If a Tesla has an issue, a technician can visit your home or workplace to assess it, there is no need for you to be present, all that is required is for you to give permission for the tec via your phone to access the vehicle... No keys required, and all rather convenient..?

Sure my Luddite tendencies showing again, when in truth I make use of so many convenient systems myself. I suspect by the time A.I. is embedded in everything, including us... the Luddite tendencies within me will be well and truly crushed... (-:
