I know four people who have bailed out of the brand due to poor reliability / cr4p aftersales / theft

They are very much dealer dependent. Bought our first Disco from Stratstone in Nottingham. Returned under warranty several times in the first year, twice on a low loader. Swapped to Marshalls at Melton Mowbray for servicing (£100 cheaper for an annual service in 2006) and problems stopped occurring. I have since found that the Marshalls head technician is on speed dial from most LR dealerships in the East Midlands. Now on our third Disco and remain happy.

I must take the Jag XE in for a service soon. It is auto with a tricky 4 wheel drive system that only connects when it thinks it needs the extra traction. Somewhere in the system there seems to be some slippage when changing gears under acceleration, feels like a slipping clutch does on a manual, but only when the gearbox is cold. It rectifies itself after about a kilometer.

The car has less than 40K but is out of warranty.

I have to say that I was not all that happy with the dealer either, or perhaps I should really say the salesman who should have given me some better advice. In any case I like the car but I really made a mistake in buying it. I now feel I should have bought the Alfa Stelvio which was about the same price at the time and would have suited our requirements better. The Stelvio has also held its second hand value much better.
