When you currently feed IMG an older format like .jpg it tries to be helpful and converts/upgrades it to a newer .jpeg during ingestion.
This results in it not being understood by TM.

Peter is aware but I fear the issue will in be effectively solved in an upgrade to allow TM to understand a more modern .jpeg format.
Until a little over a year ago the Image Library converted all xxxx.jpeg files to xxxx.jpg. The format is actually the same, it is only the extension that is changed. For the last year or so the protocol has been reversed, that is to say all xxxx.jpg files were converted to xxxx.jpeg extensions.

This was a decision made by the developer and unfortunately ignores the fact that the xxxx.jpg is by far and a way the most commonly used variant.

If a file is embedded using the [img][/img] tags it works in TM without a problem. The difficulty comes about when an image is used for an avatar which requires a direct link and does not use the UBBCode tags.

At the moment I have made a small modification to the code so that all JPEG type files now use the xxxx.jpg extension.

This means that any files uploaded at the moment should not cause any problems with the TM forum.

This modification, hopefully, does not cause any other problems but it does have the downside that the program file will need to be modified (by one letter) every time there is a software upgrade.

Hopefully two things will happen; one, that UBB.threads, the forum software, is updated to cope with xxxx.jpeg file extensions, and secondly that Chevereto, the image library software, is updated to handle both file extensions by keeping the original variation.

Unfortunately another problem has surfaced.

If the files are saved as xxxx.jpg the system is losing the exif data. Part of the exif parameters is the information about orientation. This problem has surfaced with some photos taken with an iPhone but on testing I found that it also occurs with Android devices. The result is that photos will be displayed at 90° or even upside down.

I must admit defeat on this as it would require major modifications to the software every time there is an update.

This means I must leave it so that all xxxx.jpg files were converted to xxxx.jpeg extensions.

This will not cause problems with files embedded using the [img][/img] tags but it does mean that files intended for an Avatar must be uploaded in a different format. If anyone needs assistance for this please contact me.

Also if anyone needs any existing files corrected to the correct orientation let me know and I can correct them.
